Working with chopped fibres

Chopped carbon fibres are compatible with all common resin systems, including epoxy, vinyl ester and polyester.

• Hand layup:
  Chopped carbon fibres are often used in hand layup. Their short length makes them easy to conform to complex shapes, minimising bridging. They behave similarly to chopped glass fibres, which makes them ideal for making carbon fibre moulds.
• Infuzja:
  Chopped carbon fibres can also be used in resin infusion. They wet out well and are excellent for filling complex details, where they can replace resin-rich areas and reduce bridging.
• RTM:
  Chopped carbon fibres can be placed in closed moulds and then impregnated with resin by injection. This is the process in which the term "forged carbon" originated. The technique makes it possible to produce inexpensive yet high-performance moulds and high-strength parts.

Safety rules

Remember that the fibres are cut into small pieces and can become airborne when poured or laid. Always wear gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask.
