CNC cutting of composite sheets

We prepare finished parts from composite sheets for you — frames, brackets, mounting plates, covers or prototypes. You buy the sheet and order CNC cutting in one place, and every job is quoted individually based on your drawing.

  • Carbon fibre and flax sheets
  • Single pieces and short runs
  • Individual quote

Process

How to order CNC cutting

Four simple steps — from drawing to finished parts in a parcel. Every job is quoted individually.

1

Prepare the drawing

Preferably a DXF or STEP file. Detailed requirements are listed below.

2

Send an enquiry

Write to [email protected] and attach the file. State the material (sheet type and thickness), the quantity and the expected delivery date.

3

Receive a quote

We reply within 24 hours. The quote covers the material, cutting and nesting of the parts on the sheet to use as little material as possible. If anything in the drawing needs clarifying, we will ask before giving a price.

4

Production and dispatch

Once the quote is accepted and paid, we prepare the parts, check the dimensions and ship the order. The lead time is stated in the quote — it depends on the material, the number of parts and the complexity of the contours.

File requirements

  • DXF (preferred), DWG or STEP/STP
  • For simple shapes a dimensioned PDF drawing is enough
  • Contours as closed curves
  • Dimensions in millimetres, scale 1:1
  • Visible side marked (gloss / peel ply)
  • Critical dimensions and required tolerances

Materials

Which sheets we cut from

We match the sheet to the part — fibre type, thickness and face. Not sure which to choose? Read the comparison vacuum infusion or prepreg.

Carbon · infusion

ExaTec carbon fibre sheets

Vacuum-infused sheets in any thickness — decorative or technical face.

Flax · infusion

Bcomp ampliTex flax sheets

The natural look of flax and low mass — for technical and decorative parts.

Carbon · prepreg

T300 prepreg sheets

Ready-made formats in thicknesses of 1–3 mm.

By arrangement

Customer's material

We can cut parts from your own sheet — subject to prior agreement on the material type and thickness.

Only need a rectangle? A rectangle in any size can be ordered without a quote — in the shop, select the sheet option "Custom size"and the price is calculated instantly.

Material savings

Parts nested tightly on the sheet

Before cutting, we nest all the parts of the job on the sheet to use as little material as possible. Drone arms, mounting plates, brackets and spacers can all come from a single sheet.

Nesting is included in the quote — so you pay for the material that actually ends up in your parts, not for unnecessary waste.

Nesting of parts on the sheet A 400 by 250 mm carbon fibre sheet with tightly nested parts to be cut: four drone arms laid alternately, two frame plates with lightening holes, L-brackets in pairs, mounting plates with slots and holes, triangular gussets, links and spacers in the free areas. The red line is the cutting contour, the light areas are parts, the dark carbon is waste. The magnified view shows the constant gap between parts. Sheet utilisation about 69% by part outline. Nesting of parts on the sheet 400 mm 250 mm Constant gap between parts(kerf + allowance) Cutting contour Part Waste Parts nested tightly — less waste sheet utilisation ≈ 69% (by part outline, in this example)

Why us

Why ExaTec

01

Sheet and cutting from one source

We match the sheet to the part, not the other way round.

02

Known sheet layup

You know which fabrics and resin your part is made from.

03

Material selection

We help you choose the thickness, layup and face type to suit the loads and the look.

04

Inspection before dispatch

We check the dimensions and edges of the parts from every job.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does CNC cutting cost?

Every job is quoted individually — the price depends on the material, the number of parts, the contour length and the number of holes. Send your file to [email protected]and we will reply with a quote within 24 hours.

Will you make a single piece?

Yes, we accept prototypes and single pieces as well as short runs.

I don't have a DXF file — what should I do?

Send a sketch or a dimensioned PDF. For simple shapes we can prepare the file from it — this will be noted in the quote.

I only need a sheet in a different size — do I have to ask for a quote?

No. A rectangle in any size and thickness can be ordered directly in the shop — select the "Custom size" option on the sheet and the price is calculated automatically. Available sheets: 3K Twill, Spread Tow, technical and Bcomp ampliTex flax.

Which sheet should I choose — infused or prepreg?

It depends on the size, thickness and how the part is loaded. We describe the differences in the article Vacuum infusion or prepreg. You can also simply describe the application in an e-mail — we will advise.

Have a project?
